Our community Headquarters building on Buckley Ave had to be closed before Christmas and is still shut, unfortunately.
Here’s a message from manager Megan Smith:
“Kia Ora Hobsonville Point Whanau,
“The Headquarters Building in Hobsonville Point will remain closed until ongoing issues with the building’s wastewater connection have been repaired.
“Remedial work completed by Auckland Council contractors during the Christmas break revealed the wastewater connection problem is extensive and requires a robust set of repairs.
“The issue lies with an old public wastewater pipe connected to the Headquarters building which has been crushed and damaged beneath a residential development. The council does not own the wastewater line or the land where the pipe is located and is unable to authorize repairs for it.
“We are currently looking at a proposal to connect Headquarters to a new public wastewater pipe that is being constructed nearby.
“Unfortunately, Headquarters cannot reopen until this pipe is up and running and its use for the building approved by Wastewater. The venue will be closed, pending further notice.
“Our main focus is the safety and convenience of our customers so we’re putting all our effort into fixing things and opening again as soon as possible.
“We aim to provide a high standard of service at the Headquarters for Hobsonville Point locals and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to those who have booked the facility for the next month and those who take part in activities there.
“We are currently in the process of contacting all our customers to offer alternative options.
“Nga mihi nui”
