HOBSONVILLE POINT SURVEY RESULTS WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE THINK
You may remember back in February being asked to fill in a residents’ questionnaire about life in Hobsonville Point. It was run by Beacon Pathways on behalf of Kainga Ora as part of an ongoing programme to track neighbourhood sustainability.
Here are some brief highlights of the report, kindly shared with HPRS by Kainga Ora. The major finding was that the Point rates highly in terms of neighbourhood satisfaction, with 96% of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that Hobsonville Point is a great place to live – an increase from 93% in 2018.
The area surveyed included 2308 occupied residences, both owner-occupied and rented, and Beacon received 935 completed forms from those dwellings.
WHAT DO PEOPLE LIKE BEST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
The most common answers were about the sense of the community, community, and friendliness of neighbours, with 305 households saying these were the most liked attributes of living here. Parks, reserves, green space, outdoors and water were also often mentioned positively.
75% strongly agree or agree that we have a strong sense of community. That figure is significantly higher than for Auckland (50% in the 2018 Quality of Life survey).
Walkability and ease of getting to places here was commonly identified as the thing that respondents most liked about living at Hobsonville Point.
SAFETY, SECURITY AND CRIME were amongst key issues. Ninety respondents said they liked the feeling of safety and security here while 62 did not like issues around those matters.
Perceptions of safety are higher in Hobsonville Point than for Auckland (Quality of Life Survey 2018), with most people feeling fairly or very safe in their home during the day (98%) and in their home after dark (96%). Perceptions of safety when out walking were also high, with 96% stating that it was fairly safe or very safe walking during the day and 72% walking alone after dark, a drop from 78% in 2018.
Transport issues continue to feature highly in the list of things that people most dislike about living at the Point, with the most frequent comments (219) being around carparking. Comments included a perceived lack of parking, inconsiderate parking and people not using their garage for parking.
ABOUT OUR HOUSEHOLDS
43% live in terrace housing, which is the most common housing type.
The proportion of respondents living in stand-alone homes dropped from 35% in 2018 to 29% in 2020.
More of us are moving into apartments – 12% in this survey, up from 3% in the 2018 survey.
Standalone homes make up 29% of households, down from 35% in 2018.
