Prolonged dry weather in the Auckland region is putting pressure on water supplies for rural residents. This might also apply to Hobsonville Point water tanks so please read on. See below to find out where you can fill water containers or take a shower at a council facility. Community water collection sites

Water is available to be collected for domestic use at the sites listed below.

  • You can take up to 20L of water per person in your household per day, in handheld containers.
  • Māori Wardens and council staff will be at each site to assist.
  • Read our advice on filling and storing water containers here.

Kawakawa Bay Community Hall (community-led) 9 Kawakawa Orere Road, Kawakawa Bay. Tap is inside, in the kitchen. 4pm-7pm on 18 and 19 February
Army Bay 1501 Whangaparaoa Road, Army Bay. Tap is by the toilet block. Access from the boat ramp car park. 6am – 8pm
Wenderholm Regional Park 37 Schischka Road, Waiwera. Tap at the water fountain, next to the main car park near bach access gate. Signage and road cones in place. 6am – 8pm

Water tanks for filling containers

Water tanks are available for you to fill up hand-held containers at the following locations:

We will be installing up to 20 of these 10,000L tanks at locations around the region and will update this list as more sites are added.

Please turn taps off after use, take only 20L per person in your household per day, and report any issues to Auckland Council on 09 301 0101 (referencing the location of the tank).

Tips for saving water

Watercare notes that Auckland’s metropolitan water supply situation is stable, with no restrictions in place. However, it is encouraging people to use water wisely, especially on hot days when they tend to use more than normal.

The council is using the connections and coordinating function of its Auckland Emergency Management team to bring together a council-wide response to water shortages and is working alongside Watercare.

How Auckland Council is saving water

Auckland Council has turned off almost all of its water features and fountains to save water.

Splash pads have been turned off, except those at Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre and Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. Both of these splash pads filter, treat and reuse up to 99 per cent of the water they use.

The council is continuing to water sports fields to ensure that they can still be used during winter.
