The Hobsonville Yacht Club has been selected as one of the finalists for The Trusts Million Dollar Mission 2019.
This is very exciting for the HYC Juniors… as every online vote counts as $5 towards the club’s goal of raising funds to buy new Optimist yachts so local kids can learn how to sail these popular single-handed dinghies. HYC is aiming for $35,150 so they can order new craft. Voting started on March 1 and you can vote once every day until March 31.
What is The Trusts? The name refers to the West Auckland Licensing Trusts. Around here, only Trust businesses can operate hotels, taverns and bottle stores. In case you’re new here, note that the Trust system is the reason why you can’t buy wine/beer in supermarkets though there are local Trusts-run liquor stores. In return for that control, the Trusts periodically give money to support local good causes. Currently, they’re giving one million dollars to community groups and projects all over West Auckland.
The HYC is one of 48 community organisations that will receive a share of that million. Voting opened on March 1 to enable the public to vote for their favourite projects, and halfway through the month the club was halfway towards its goal.
All you have to do to help is vote online. It takes just a few seconds to do and every vote counts for $5. Go on – it’s quick, easy and painless, and you’ll help contribute to lively fun on the water for kids.
